Three hundred ghazals from twenty classical poets, selected and annotated by Kashif Raza as an introduction to the golden centuries of Urdu poetry.
The anthology begins with Wali Dakhni and moves through Siraj Aurangabadi, Mir Taqi Mir, Sauda, Dard, Mushafi, Atish, Nasikh, Momin, Zauq, Ghalib and Dagh Dehlavi. Each poet is introduced with a short biography and a note on their style.
Notes on difficult words appear beside each ghazal, and an appendix explains the basic metres and the vocabulary of the ghazal tradition.

Good annotations. I would have included Hasrat Mohani as well, but a fine collection.
Poetry lover, Karachi
A perfect introduction. The Mir and Dard selections are exquisite.
